The most important thing when getting together small business ideas is to choose a topic you are interested in.

I can't stress that enough, you must choose something you are interested in. You will work ten times harder at a topic that you have a genuine interest in than at one you pick because you think it will make you money and as a result you will make ten times more.

Just think about it, if you had to sit down and write information on how to get rid of headlice would that excite you? What if you put a few hours a week into writing about headlice would you want to do it or would you think of it as a chore?

But what if you had to write about something you love doing, something you look forward to every week, something you are passionate about. Would you want to do it? And what if you could get paid for writing about the thing you love, wouldn't that excite you?

Success in business is a lot about doing something you love. If you love your work you will want to do it, you will put your passion into it and that will shine through. You will spend more time making sure you succeed instead of thinking of work as a chore and hoping one day to succeed. Thats what the really great small business ideas are about.

Remember "One Day" never comes.

I love what I do, I look forward to the days I get just for me and my web sites. When I know I have a day scheduled to update my web sites or write a blog I get all excited and the day will just fly by. I never watch the clock waiting for home time, instead if I do glance at the time I wish I could squeeze out a couple more hours so I can fit that little bit more in.

That's what business should be about!

So, once again, make sure you pick something you are interested in.

The main obstacle I come across when speaking to people about starting a home based Internet business is a lack of ideas. Most people say "I don't have a hobby or interest".

All I can say to that is if you have no hobbies or interests then your life must be very boring!

Everybody has hobbies and interests you just don't realise it. Conventionally when we think of hobbies and interests we think of model railways, golf or reading.

How many times have you filled out an application form and in the "hobbies/Interests" section put "reading, watching films, going out with friends". Reading is to make you sound a little intelligent, going out with friends is to show you have a social life and watching films is just to fill up the space. If you are feeling really creative you might put, cooking, swimming, and maybe jogging, because you did run a bit a few months back.

My point is that most people are in the same boat, we don't really have any hobbies or interests in the conventional sense. What you need to do is think outside the box. Take a step back and look at what you do with your life and some small business ideas might just come to the surface.

Okay lets do a little exercise. Get a piece of paper and write down what you do on a week day. Do you go to work, look after the kids, exercise, watch TV, go to the pub? Next write down what you do in the evening and also what you do on the weekends. Don't miss out anything, just write it down.

Next write down all the things you would like to do or would like to know more about.

Next look at each of the things you have written down and if you don't enjoy it cross it off.

Now you have a shorter list of things you enjoy.

Next look at each item on your list and try to expand it. What I mean by this try to think how you could expand that area into something interesting that people might want to read about.

For example - do you have kids, is there anything you do with them that you could write information on, do you read them stories, play games with them, make crafts or maybe you take them out so they are always busy. Mums are always looking for places to take their kids to use up some energy, and where do they look? Online; there are a few more small business ideas...

Where do you work? Could you incorporate your current job into your home business? It must be something you know a lot about or you wouldn't be doing it as a job.
